A four-day workshop was designed to bring together 30 participants, representatives of Libyan women and civil society activists. The participants were selected, through direct consultations with the Libyan civil society and based on the record of their engagement in the process of advancing women’s issues in the constitution and their geographical location (to ensure balance representation of the three regions in Libya: Tripolitania, Cyrenaica and Fezzan).
The recommendations developed during this workshop will presented to the members of the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) during a separate event organized for the CDA in Malta in February 2015. During this event a time will be allocated for the women’s representatives to present the outcomes of their work and to lobby for inclusion of the demands in the draft constitution. To this end a representation of 6 women, will be selected by the Tunis workshop representatives. These persons will be in charge of presenting the workshops recommendations to the CDA.
